There is considerable government funding available for ECO home improvements to make green homes by reducing our environmental impact in the area of energy efficiency measures. In addition to grants initiated by the government and funded by energy suppliers, local authority also offers energy efficiency programs.

Not all grants for home improvements available are government funded, but all can help improve your home if you are eligible for the house repairs and upgrades program. If you’re not claiming any benefits we may be able to arrange the upgrades through LaFlex – a local authority delivery scheme available to vulnerable people.

As a result of these grants, your home will be able to provide more warmth, energy efficiency, and value.

Energy Wizards are always ensuring that you are updated with the various government grants and schemes that are available to help reduce energy costs to households around the UK. Here’s a guide to some of the latest financial calls for help not only for homeowners upgrading their properties to be more eco-friendly, but also for most others seeking relief from escalating living expenses.

£400 Energy Grant

Households in England, Wales and Scotland are receiving a new, non-repayable £400 energy grant. This is not, as with previous schemes, a loan: You will not have to pay it back. If you’re on a traditional prepayment meter, this support will probably be received in monthly payments starting in October, which will help to ease winter fuel bills.

Advice and support for energy savings £100s

As well as financial support, local authorities will also be providing advice on practical energy-saving tips for you to cut down on cost and make better choices on energy usage during those cold months.

Support for benefit claimants: £650

If you get some means-tested benefits, you may be entitled to £650 in financial support, made in two payments — one in July and one in October. To be eligible, you must be receiving benefits or have a claim granted no later than 25 May 2022 (24 August if you are a pension credit claimant).

£300 Winter Fuel Top-Up

If you receive a Winter Fuel Payment, you will get an extra £300, on top of what you’re already entitled to, which should be paid in November or December — perfect timing for heating bills.

£150 Disability Payment

Disabled people receiving benefits will also get a one-off payment of £150 to help offset rising costs by September.

£150 Council Tax Rebate

Households paying council tax in bands A through D will be able to claim the £150 rebate. Pathways to payment will differ from council to council, but every council will have this support in place by 30 September 2022.

More Cold Weather Help

Residents that qualify may also receive:

  • Winter Fuel Payments: £100–£300 for those born before 26 Sept 1955.
  • Warm Home Discount: £140 off your electricity bill paid between October and March
  • Cold Weather Payment: £25 for every 7 consecutive days of freezing temperatures (Nov–Mar).

Is Energy Company Obligation (ECO) one of the Grants for Home Improvements?

Absolutely! For home improvements, one of the grants you have access to is the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). But whether you are eligible will depend on your circumstances. Best to get a home repair assessment to see if you qualify for this government-backed assistance. Find out your eligibility with Energy Wizards now.

What is ECO4?

ECO4 is the widely-publicised fourth phase of the Energy Company Obligation in Great Britain, a government-enabled initiative to reduce the number of households in fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions. Backed by the big energy players, this scheme is providing free energy-efficient home upgrades to low-income and vulnerable households, homeowners or renters. ECO4 introduces a new support regime for those from low income families, particularly single parent families, owning and living in fuel poor properties. The programme aims to create warmer, more energy-efficient homes across the country through measures such as free insulation, electric storage heaters and boiler upgrades. Local government is involved in identifying eligible households. Here at Energy Wizards, we are proud to support ECO4 by helping communities to benefit from a better future.

Are You Eligible For ECO4 Home Improvements Grant?

Low income homeowners or private tenants (with the agreement of the landlord) receiving certain government benefits may be eligible for the ECO4 grant to help upgrade their properties.

At Energy Wizards, we’re collaborating directly with the ECO4 scheme to help UK families benefit from free home improvements that can transform their lives. With heat-saving loft insulation, heat-retaining cavity wall insulation and upgrading old heating systems among some key upgrades we support, we help residential energy efficiency improve and bills to drop.

Whether you’re with British Gas or a different energy supplier, we’ll walk you through the grant process — especially as winter arrives and energy bills climb. Greening your home is one way to combat fuel poverty while also promoting a more sustainable environment for everyone.

And best of all, you will pay nothing for your eligibility assessment.
